For the third year in a row, Senatobia’s First United Methodist Church is living out the gospel by serving free meals every week this summer.
The church, located at 102 West Gilmore Street, is providing free dinner to everyone who visits on Wednesdays June through July from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. The service will begin Wednesday, June 8. The meals will be provided both for drive-thru and in sit-down settings. Meals will include BBQ or hamburgers with chips, drinks and a dessert.
Last year the program served around 100 meals a week to local residents, but the church hopes to grow its service this year due to construction taking up space previously.
Chris Brunetti says the program is about more than just giving food.
“We don’t just want to serve an immediate need, but also an eternal need by revealing why we give food. That’s why we call it the John 6 ministries,” said Brunetti.
John 6:35 states “Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
“We want to make sure the community knows where to get a meal if they are hungry,” said Brunetti.
