I’ve read several social media posts over the past month of people complaining there is nothing to do in Tate County. Well, that’s simply not true.
Over the past month, Senatobia Main Street has offered a variety of events geared toward people of all ages as a form of entertainment. Events like Witches Night Out offered a fun night for ladies to dress up, get out, and shop local stores all to raise money for the Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter.
This past Tuesday night was the annual Trunk or Treat on Front Street. By the time I had to write this column, I didn’t know the numbers of the turn out for this year’s event, but last year’s drew over 4,000 people to downtown Senatobia.
This coming Saturday will be the Bags, Brews and Boos event where there will be live music, a costume contest, a cornhole tournament, craft beer tasting and cash prizes.
But Tate County has even more to offer with Northwest Mississippi Community College continuing to offer events for the public. In addition to Ranger football games, which will continue into the fall as the Rangers are now in the playoffs, but even this past weekend the college hosted a Bull-o-Rama event at its all purpose arena.
I attended Bull-o-Rama and can personally attest that the event boasted of a packed house selling out to attendees.
Additionally, the college has announced its upcoming play “She Loves Me” which starts live performances tonight (Wednesday).
And speaking of plays, Tate County is home to the Independence Arts Conservatory which will put on a rendition of “The Wizard of Oz” November 4th and 5th at 7 p.m. nightly.
Not only does Tate County offer all these events, let’s not overlook the plethora of fall festivities offered to the community by the local group of churches from multiple denominations.
And if none of those strikes a fancy to attend, consider the fact that Senatobia has both a working movie theater grounded solidly in local history, local parks for walking or child’s play, and an indoor trampoline park by the name of Whippersnaps.
So to all the naysayers who claim there is nothing to do in Tate County or Senatobia, I challenge them to pull their heads out of the sand and look around. There’s plenty to do here to pass time and have fun.
