A traffic violation on I-55 resulted in numerous drug charges for two individuals last week.
Senatobia Police Department officers were patrolling portions of I-55 Thursday, January 5, when units conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a temporary paper tag with an obscured view of the expiration date.
As officers approached to converse with the driver, the smell of marijuana was emanating from the vehicle. After a brief conversation, both the driver, identified as Roger Young, 35, of Greenwood, and passenger, identified as Larry McCline, 48, of Memphis, were asked to exit the vehicle.
Upon a search, officers located a backpack in the passenger side rear seat of the vehicle containing a large bag of green leafy material consistent with marijuana. A K-9 unit with SPD was deployed and confirmed with a positive alert indicating the presence of narcotics.
Further investigation revealed the backpack contained several pills including over 43 Oxycodone, 41 Ecstasy, a container filled with yellow powder, a container containing red powder, clear plastic baggies, a pill press, a scale, over half a pound of marijuana and $4,674 in cash.
Young was charged with no insurance, no tag, improper display of tag, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts felony trafficking of a controlled substance and one count felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
McCline was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts felony trafficking of a controlled substance and one count felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
