It can’t get any more American than to sit down to watch the Super Bowl. So my family did just that this past Sunday.
In Super Bowl LVII, The Philadelphia Eagles took on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Being an Alabama girl, of course I chose to pull for the Eagles. For those of you didn’t know, the Eagles have four former Alabama players on the roster.
Leading the pack is former Alabama quarterback, Jalen Hurts. My dear husband loves to point out the fact that Hurts finished out his collegiate career playing for the Oklahoma Sooners, but all of us Bama fans remember what he did for the Tide. Like, you know, lead one of the most prolific UA offenses in the school’s history.
While at Bama Hurts finished fourth all-time with a winning percentage of 92.9 percent. He accumulated 7,617 yards total offence while leading Bama to the 2018 College Football Championship where the Tide beat Georgia in a come-from-behind 26-23 victory in overtime.
Although, Hurts transferred to Oklahoma for his senior year, he was born and bred by Bama.
Also, on the Eagles’ roster is former Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith, offensive guard Landon Dickerson and cornerback Josh Jobe.
But it turns out, having four former Alabama players isn’t that uncommon for an NFL team. In fact, for the 2022 season, the college that had the most active players was Alabama with 58 active players. To go further it’s been this way for the last six years with Alabama contributing the most players to NFL rosters.
Maybe there is something to the whole “built by Bama”, after all.
Watching the game, Sunday was just a reminder of even though those boys (and by boys, of course I mean talented young men) may change jersey colors, they’ll always have a place in the hearts of Bama fans across the nation.
Although, the Kansas City Chiefs pulled out a 38-35 victory in the last few seconds of regulation play, I’m still super proud of my Bama Boys for hitting the gridiron hard and playing a well-played game.
So in the spirit of things, Fly Bama Fly…or is it Roll Eagles Roll?
