Three matches in as many days was no easy feat for the Magnolia Heights girls’ soccer team. Despite the crammed schedule though, the Lady Chiefs won two of their three varsity matches, earning wins against Regents School of Oxford and Starkville Home School last Thursday and Friday.
In a 7-0 shutout of Regents, Makenzie Nosef netted a hat trick, leading the Lady Chiefs with three goals and one assist. Mary Emma Raff also added a pair of goals, while Ella Hill and Emily Mize scored one goal each. Additionally, Anne Finke also provided an assist.
Nosef was once again the team’s leading scorer in last Friday’s 5-1 takedown of Starkville Home School, earning yet another hat trick. Miller Blaylock led the Lady Chiefs with two assists, while also providing a goal of her own, and Mize added another goal as well.
Defensively, goalkeeper Darby Woolever kept Starkville Home School off the board for most of the match, collecting four saves in the winning effort.
Saturday provided the lone loss for Magnolia Heights, as St. Benedict of Auburndale blanked the Lady Chiefs by a 4-0 final. Woolever did her best between the posts, collecting 19 saves in the loss.
Magnolia Heights now stands at 4-2 on the season. The Lady Chiefs will be back in action on Tuesday, August 16 at Northpoint Christian and Thursday, Aug. 18 at Starkville Academy. Both matches will be on the road and will kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
