A thrilling opening set was as close as Senatobia volleyball would get to tasting victory last Thursday evening, as Hickory Flat defeated the Lady Warriors in a 3-0 decision.
Senatobia and the Lady Rebels went toe-to-toe in the opening set, with Hickory Flat squeaking out a 26-24 advantage. Although the visitors would get off to a hot start in the second set, the Lady Warriors rallied back from a 10-4 deficit to tie things up at 11-11.
Unfortunately, Senatobia’s momentum would be short-lived, as the Lady Rebels pulled back in front and widened the gap to 18-12. Even though the Lady Warriors issued a small rally, Hickory Flat was able to hang on and claim the second set, 25-17.
Both teams went back and forth yet again to open the third set and after a 6-6 tie, SHS rattled off three straight points for a 9-6 advantage. However, Hickory Flat countered with a run of its own, earning the next five points for an 11-9 lead.
From there, the Lady Rebels’ lead only grew, as Senatobia fell behind 18-10. Although the Lady Warriors would occasionally break Hickory Flat’s runs, the Lady Rebels seemed to always have an answer, eventually clinching the match with a 25-12 decision in the third and final set.
With the loss, Senatobia fell to 1-2 on the season. The Lady Warriors will travel to Water Valley on Tuesday evening for a 6:30 P.M. match, before hosting Cleveland Central next Tuesday, August 23.
