Another person has been arrested in connection with a 2023 sexual assault in Tate County, according to authorities.
Major Gray Nickels from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office said Melanie Lane Hart, 24, of Coldwater, was taken into custody Friday, March 1, and charged with sexual battery of a child under the age of 14 after an indictment was returned by a grand jury in January. She was detained at the Tate County Jail under a $25,000 bond.
Law enforcement officials said Tyler Nathaniel Hart, 29, of Coldwater, was charged with sexual battery of a child in September 2023 after TCSO investigators followed up on a complaint regarding a sexual assault in the 1700 block of Poagville Road in August.
Enough evidence and probable cause were uncovered during an investigation to charge Hart who was later released under a $100,000 bond, authorities said. He was also indicted during the January session of the Tate County Grand Jury.
