As the weather seems to slowly be warming up this year, I think it’s important to encourage cool heads.
Every year in the spring, there seems to be an escalation in tempers. More angry outbursts in disputes, escalated debates on social media and increased brawls on the streets seem to be common around this time of year.
But maybe this year, let’s all try to keep cool heads.
After all, May is filled with excitement for our local baseball and softball teams reaching their tournament and all-star games. We have graduations to look forward to attending. Mother’s Day this year falls on Sunday, May 14.
Also, locally, we Tate County folks get to look forward to Senatobia’s Five Star City Fest.
Over the past several weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of writing stories about the individual events occurring at the festival. Just writing about it all has me excited to get outside, feel some warm springtime sunshine and celebrate the good in our city.
I’m certainly not going to be bashing every little pothole on social media. Neither am I going to belittle our city workers about picking up limbs from the yard after a couple of particularly severe weather events. I’m not going to sweat having to walk a little further to grab a buggy at Wal-Mart. Is my service a little slow at a fast-food joint? Well, that gives me more time to enjoy a bit of quiet reflection enjoying my favorite songs.
My point is, maybe it’s time to stop the negativity. Maybe it’s time to set the example to our children that cooler heads prevail. Maybe it’s time to not sweat the small inconveniences we face while living in the nation referred to as the “leader of the free world”.
There are plenty of people in the world who long to have the luxuries we tend to take for granted.
Maybe, just maybe, this year, let’s leave it to the weather to warm up instead of our tempers.
