Registration is open for Carnivore’s Corner Barbecue Contest & Steak-Off as part of Senatobia’s Five Star City Fest set for May 12-13.
The cook-off presented by Elite Builders, will test chefs in a number of areas and offers a wide variety of categories for competition.
Senatobia Main Street Director Jamie Sowell said the event is bigger and better than ever.
“We are taking things up a notch this year with our Carnivore’s Corner Cooking Competition with new categories and prizes. We are also changing the way teams are eligible for Grand Champion to really put these teams to the test,” said Sowell.
To be eligible for the Grand Champion prize of $300 cash, a hand-crafted trophy and a new grill donated by Louisiana Grills, contestants must enter all the following categories: chicken, exotic, sides, beef, pulled pork, ribs and steak. Contestants must provide their own meats except for the steak. For the Steak-off, two ribeye steaks will be provided.
Meats will be inspected prior to cooking. Meats may not be pre-cooked, sauced, spiced, injected, marinated or cured in anyway prior to the inspection.
Contestants not seeking the Grand Champion trophy, can enter the categories above, in addition to Best Setup, dessert, chicken wings, bologna, and cocktails. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to each first-place winner.
There will also be prizes for second and third place winners. Entry fees vary by category.
There will be a mandatory meeting for the barbecue contest on Thursday, May 11 at 5 p.m. The Steak-Off will also require a meeting of participants on Saturday, May 13 at 9 a.m.
Each team will be allowed a standard 20x20 cooking site. No campers or RV’s will be allowed inside the cooking areas. There is a parking lot near the cooking site which will be reserved for campers. Additionally, no golf carts are allowed in the cooking area.
Water hook-ups and public porta potties will be available onsite at no charge.
“We are thankful for the continued support of our sponsors and teams. We are almost out of space so teams interested in joining in the fun should get their applications in as soon as possible,” Sowell said.
