Hunters and wild game chefs can test their skills at the upcoming Beast and Brews event. The event sponsored by Guaranty Bank, is set for Saturday, March 11 at Pocket Park and is the first of its kind to be hosted by Senatobia Main Street. All proceeds from the event will go to fund further projects by Senatobia Main Street.
Although the main event is the wild game cookoff, there will also be space for over 40 outdoor sporting venders and food trucks. Live music will be brought by Truck Patch Revival from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Craft beer samples will be available for purchase.
South Ward Street will be closed off to traffic beginning 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
Headlining the event is a wild game cookoff celebrating game animals, game birds and game fish that can be harvested in North America. Teams are strongly encouraged to utilize fish, fowl or game they have harvested themselves or have been harvested by other hunters and anglers.
Teams may consist of a group of individuals, a couple or single individual. Teams are required to sign up at the Main Street office or by emailing Jamie Sowell, Senatobia Main Street Director, at jamie@tatecountyms.com. Pre-registration is required by March 3.
The cost to enter is based on the number of categories entered by the teams.
Categories include Best Bloody Mary, Best Margarita, Best Sides, Best Set Up, Best Dessert, Fish, Fowl, Small Game and Big Game.
The Grand Champion prize will be $300 cash and a flattop grill donated by Men’s South Ag. To be eligible for the grand prize teams must be entered in every category excluding drinks.
Second place will earn $200 cash and third place will take home $100 cash. Individual prize packs are provided for drinks, sides, best set up and best dessert. Teams must provide eight sampler-sized portions for judging.
Registration and set up begins Friday, March 10 at 5 p.m. Each site area will be 10 feet by 20 feet for standard cooking sites. Water hook-ups and public port-a-potties will be available onsite at no charge.
Electrical hook-ups may be available for the first 10 teams who enter. Generators may be needed after the first 10 teams register. Water hoses and extension cords are not included.
Each team must comply with all the applicable rules/regulations of the Tate County Health Department. Due to the nature of the event, no meat or entry product may be sold.
