Dear Editor:
On July 8, 1741 Jonathan Edwards, preached a sermon with the aforementioned title. His message on that day became a clear and present warning to sinful men.
In the sermon he asserted that sinful men were bound for the pits of hell and the only thing keeping them from sliding into the great abyss was the hand of God.
He continued by explaining that if God releases his hold upon them, they would, by the weight of their own sin, slide on the slippery slope straight into the fiery pit of hell.
His scripture text was from the Book of Deuteronomy chapter 32. It was a clear warning that Moses gave to the nation of Israel. In verse 35 we read, “To me belongeth vengeance and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.”
He prefaced this passage with verse 28, “For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them.”
He drove his point home with psalm 73:18 “Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.”
My Point?
We are a nation void of counsel and there seems to be a void of understanding at all levels of our country: in religion, in government and in society.
We have no sense in our nation of the concept of an angry God. We can thank the Christian Church for this lack of understanding about the nature of the One who created all things.
Our government has no fear of God. Since the late 1960s it has been trying to expunge all evidence of the creator out of public life: No ten commandments, no prayer in school, censorship of those who pray in congress. Yes, anyone who prays in Congress is asked not to invoke the name of Jesus Christ.
Then there is society. The woke mob and social media mobsters are trying to rewrite the rules for acceptable speech. Forget the first amendment to the constitution.
Here we stand as a nation on the slippery slopes of hell and due to a lack of understanding and counsel we are oblivious to our coming destruction.
Folks, when God lets go of us, life as we know it will be over. God has continued to protect this nation despite the stench of its sins. Look around you and you will see evidence that he is loosening his grip, and the very weight of our sins will plunge us down the slippery slope into the great abyss.
Listen to the Republicans and they will tell you there is going to be a great reset in November when they take back the House and Senate.
Listen to the prophetic movement and they will tell you a great revival is coming and God will spare this nation.
Listen to Christians who believe in the pre-tribulation rapture of the church and they will assure you that Jesus is about to come and snatch the church away from this coming hell.
Listen to the rest of the Church and they will tell you that GOD IS LOVE.
No one, but no one is suggesting to you that God has had it with us. No one dare say that GOD IS ANGRY.
I believe that God is angry and that he has started removing the great hedges of protection from this nation and that he is going to let us suffer the consequences of our sin and ignorance.
It is because I believe this, that I am preparing for food shortages, angry mobs within our borders, millions of migrants flooding our southern border, corruption in the coming mid-term elections, more censorship of free speech, more pandemics, and the collapse of the church as we know it. We are about to become a hungry and starving nation void of hope in the future.
Why? Because we have angered the author of life and don’t have enough sense to know it.
I hope for the sake of the Republicans that they win the House and Senate in the fall.
I hope for the sake of the church that the pre-tribulation rapture comes.
In either case, those hopes will not change the outcome of judgment from the Creator God who made us.
My advise to the reader is to take your own counsel. You do not have to be anointed by God as a prophet to see what is coming. You just have to open your eyes and ears to observe what is unfolding and compare that to the lessons of history. You might also want to open your mind to the concept of an angry God.
