Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heaven” (Matthew 5:3). What does it mean to be poor in spirit? We have considered he who is poor in spirit is he who recognizes he is in need because he has sinned. Second, we will consider that he who is poor in spirt recognizes that without God, he is nothing.
