Unemployment in Tate County dipped to 3.6% in November, according to statistics from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES).
Complete jobless data was not calculated by MDES in September and October due to the partial federal government shutdown
Tate County had a rate of 4.1% in August which snapped a four-month streak of increased unemployment.
In November, Tate County ranked 18th in the state in unemployment and the rate of 3.6% includes an estimated 11,790 of the eligible 12,230 residents, at least 16 years of age, actively searching for employment in November but could not secure a job.
The county’s rate of 3.6% is lower than the state’s non-seasonally adjusted average of 3.8% and nationwide average of 4.3%.
Seasonally adjusted rates take annual patterns such as weather, holidays, school schedules and other occurrences that affect employment rates into account. Only nationwide and statewide percentages are adjusted.
Mississippi’s not seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment increased by 8,800 in November. The industry sectors registering the largest monthly employment gains were trade, transportation & utilities; leisure & hospitality; and professional & business services.
For the month of November, 32 counties in Mississippi posted unemployment rates less than or equal to the state’s rate of 3.8%. Rankin County posted the lowest rate for the month at 2.8% followed by Lafayette County at 2.9. Jefferson County had the highest rate at 10.4% followed by Claiborne County at 8.7.
