The election phrase “every vote matters” completely defines the Senatobia Ward 3 alderman race.
Results were finalized at city hall Wednesday, April 9, declaring incumbent Allen “Vashon” Tanksley the winner against Michael Cathey in the Democratic primary 132-131 securing Tanksley’s third consecutive term in office.
Unofficial results from the primary election Tuesday, April 1, showed Tanksley with the slimmest of leads after all ballots including valid absentee and affidavits were counted.
Records show two Democratic mail-in ballots were sent out, one in February and one in March, but they were never returned. Both ballots were required to have a postmark on or before April 1 and received by election officials before the Wednesday, April 9 (five business days) deadline to be added to the final tally.
Tanksley will be sworn-in alongside Ward 1 Aldermen Jeff Underwood, who ran unopposed, at the end of June.
The mayor’s seat, Ward 4 alderman and aldermen at-large positions will on the general election ballot Tuesday, June 3.
