A Tate County man has been arrested in connection with breaking into a pair of Coldwater businesses.
Chief Rickey Dandridge identified the suspect as Jonathan D. Starkey, 35, who was taken into custody Wednesday, June 29, and charged with grand larceny and illegal possession of controlled substance. Starkey was held at the Tate County Jail under a $30,000 bond.
Dandridge said the Coldwater Police Department opened an investigation following June burglaries at the Tate County School District bus shop next to the Coldwater school campus on Arkabutla Road and Stafford Repair on U.S. Highway 51.
Dandridge said a hole was cut in a in a fence at the Tate County School District bus shop where an estimated $10,000 in damage, including theft of property occurred.
Starkey developed as a suspect in the burglaries after investigators from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office identified him from surveillance photos released by the Coldwater Police Department that were also posted on the Tate County Crime Stoppers Facebook page.
Authorities said Starkey was previously released from jail on bonds in DeSoto County for felon in possession of a weapon and in Tunica County for felon in possession of a weapon and illegal possession of controlled substance.
