Senatobia Fire & Rescue was awarded the Leary Firefighter’s Foundation Grant to purchase a washer extractor and dryer. SF&R was awarded the grant in the amount of $17,382.50 to purchase the equipment.
The department requested and was awarded the six-piece soft mount extractor and drying cabinet to ensure that, in the future, all firefighters have a means to clean their turnouts in order to safely and effectively remove contaminants that can potentially cause harm to anyone in close proximity to turnouts.
The purchase and use of this equipment will help Senatobia Fire Department become NFPA 1851 compliant, which establishes guidelines for the maintenance of turnout gear. Science has proven that wearing contaminated turnout gear greatly increases the likelihood of cancer in firefighters.
