It was a hard loss in a hard-fought game between to hard running football teams.
Senatobia suffered their first loss to district foe Clarksdale in a game that saw minimal passing and lots of “three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust.”
“They are a tough team, tough team, and we knew it coming in here,” said Senatobia coach Carter Norris. “This was a key district match for us and a tough loss.”
Senatobia got the kickoff and running back Deavion Watson was handed the ball 12 straight times to go 61-yards to the Clarksdale 2-yard line.
Quarterback Jay Irby, then ran behind Watson straight up the middle for the score and Senatobia led 7-0 after one.
The Warrior D stopped Clarksdale at the 14, but Senatobia stalled on their next series. Both teams used linebackers to punish running backs trying to break into the secondary.
Clarksdale scored with 3:28 on a 97-yard drive in the second quarter and made the two-pointer to take the lead 8-7 at the half.
Clarksdale didn't change a thing in their offensive scheme and came back on the field with the run.
Clarksdale opened the second half with a 95-yard, 24-play drive that consumed the third quarter.
The Wildcat scored their final TD and two-point conversion to take the score to 16-7.
Senatobia drove 73-yards in their final effort but had a pass intercepted in the endzone.
Both teams have strong records, strong players and a strong desire to roll into the postseason. They could easily meet again in the playoffs.
