A local man arrested in connection with a shooting in Senatobia last year has been sentenced in Tate County Circuit Court.
Records indicate William Tyler Scott, 18, of Senatobia, was ordered to serve five years in Mississippi Department of Corrections and 10 years post-release supervision after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He had charges of drive-by shooting and conspiracy remanded to the file.
Scott, a teenager when the crime occurred, was originally charged as an adult with drive-by shooting and conspiracy by Senatobia Police Department for his role in an incident Sunday, April 11, 2021.
A report from SPD stated officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Gilmore and Scottsdale near the Gospel Temple Church of God at approximately 8 p.m., after receiving a report of shots fired in the area.
Detective Brannon Rushing with SPD said officers continued to patrol the neighborhood for nearly an hours after discovering nothing out of the ordinary.
Just after 9 p.m., the Southaven Police Department contacted local dispatch regarding a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his hand who had been recently transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto. Rushing said Senatobia detectives questioned the victim at the hospital before launching an investigation.
Detectives located the scene where the shooting took place later that evening and discovered bullet holes in a residence near the Gospel Temple Church of God, the report stated. Detectives also obtained video surveillance footage showing a vehicle with at least two suspects inside.
Senatobia Police Chief Richard Chandler told the Tate Record an investigation of the events and interviews with eyewitnesses and persons involved in the incident led to enough probable cause to charge Scott, who was processed at the Tate County Jail and held under a $250,000 bond.
Scott was indicted by the Tate County Grand Jury in October 2021.
