Northwest Mississippi Community College will celebrate the start of the 2022 fall sports season with its annual "Meet the Rangers" event, scheduled for Wednesday, August 24 at 7 p.m.
Admission is free for the event, which will be held at Bobby Franklin Field and will recognize members of the rodeo, volleyball, football, men's and women's soccer teams, cheerleaders, dance team and Ranger Marching Band.
This year, the Ranger Band's halftime show is titled "champioNs", featuring songs from the movie "Gladiator", Bonnie Tyler, Queen, DJ Khaled, while also paying homage to a legacy of champions at Northwest. Tracks include "The Battle", "Holding Out For a Hero", "We Are the Champions" and "All I Do Is Win."
Northwest men's soccer will be the first team to kick off the 2022-23 athletic season, as the Rangers will travel to Blue Mountain College on Thursday, August 18 at 2 p.m. The Northwest volleyball squad will begin their regular season on Saturday, August 20 with a pair of home matches against Chattanooga State (1 p.m.) and Champion Christian College (5 p.m.).
After a series of preseason exhibitions, Northwest women's soccer is scheduled to begin its regular season slate on Saturday, August 27 against National Park College at 1 p.m. The Lady Rangers were nationally ranked for a majority of the season last year and are coming off the best season in program history, after earning a 15-3-1 overall record and a trip to the MACCC/Region 23 Semifinals.
On the gridiron, the back-to-back MACCC champion football team will open against Mississippi Gulf Coast on Thursday, September 1 from Bobby Franklin Field. Northwest is ranked No. 15 nationally by JCGridiron.com, but the Rangers are also expected to be ranked in the upcoming NJCAA polls, setting up a potential top 10 matchup against the Bulldogs in Week 1.
Northwest will also begin the fall portion of its 2022-23 rodeo season at Missouri Valley College from Sept. 22-24.
