Magnolia Heights School ventured east for a game with Independence High School in a meeting that saw a new connection made in Tate County.
Magnolia Heights is a top ranked MAIS 4A-D1 school and Independence is a smaller MHSAA 3A school and it showed Friday night with the Magnolia Heights Chiefs taking the victory, 42-9.
Magnolia Heights used a good combination of the run and pass to score 21 points in the first quarter.
Junior running back Jack Price had good blocking most of the night and scored the Chiefs first TD. A pass from quarterback Brannan Overstreet was caught by Mac Bouchillon for a 43-yard second score.
The Chiefs marched 62 yards for the third TD with Price running right from five yards out. The PAT snap by Bradley Carroll, hold by Cayden Prestage and kick by Cash Jackson was good all three times.
The game slowed down to a grind in the second quarter with each side getting three possessions but no points.
The Wildcats made the adjustment at the half and quickly scored a TD on a 37-yard catch and spin by senior running back Chantz Gardner.
But the Chiefs bounced back and scored another 21 points to send the score to 42-6.
Junior Hunter Stevens scored Magnolia Heights final TD.
Independence got the last score on a field goal from senior Devin Martin as time expired.
The Wildcats travel to Coahoma County for their last regular season game to take on the top ranked team in their district on Friday.
Magnolia Heights is back home at Cahill Field this weekend to finish out the regular season with district foe Bayou Academy.
