Tate County remains in the low category for COVID-19 even though the state saw a surge in cases at the beginning of February.
A recent report from the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH stated 3,120 new cases of COVID-19 reported between Jan. 31 and Feb. 6 across the state. There were also 32 deaths connected to COVID-19 and 129 long-term care outbreaks.
Data from MSDH shows 13 of 82 Mississippi counties are in the medium category for COVID-19, while the remaining 69 are considered low.
Since the beginning of the outbreak in March 2020, Mississippi has accumulated a total of 981,020 coronavirus cases and 13,257 COVID-related deaths. Tate County has registered 8,672 cases and 158 deaths.
Two of the deaths in the most recent report were in DeSoto County and occurred between Jan. 7 through 24, according to the MSDH. No deaths were reported in Tate County during that time frame.
Of the case numbers, MSDH reported 519,575 were confirmed and 461,445 were probable. Among the fatalities, 8,688 were confirmed from coronavirus and the remainder were probable COVID-19-related deaths.
