A suspect originally taken into custody in connection with possession of narcotics is facing additional charges following an investigation by the Tate County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigator Destin Johnson identified the subject as Jarrod Gant, 36, of Sarah, who was charged Wednesday, Jan. 18, with possession of controlled substance, possession of child pornography, felon in possession of a weapon and failure to register as a sex offender. Gant was detained at the Tate County Jail under a $180,000 bond.
Johnson said TCSO acquired a search warrant to investigate the possession of narcotics charges which led authorities to a Tate County address where Gant was living, but the residence was not the same one listed on the Mississippi Sex Offender Registry.
Johnson said investigators obtained another search warrant to conduct a data extraction from Gant’s cell phone and discovered child pornography.
The case remains under review by the Tate County Sheriff’s Office, according to Johnson.
