October was a solid period for Tate County Justice Court as collections increased compared to the previous month.
Numbers presented Monday, Nov. 17 to the Tate County Board of Supervisors reflect a revenue boost of close to $10,000 from $51,420 in September to $61,139 in October.
The biggest chunk of October criminal and civil assessments in Tate County – $24,121 – was generated from general fines. TCJC also collected $10,733 for traffic violations, $5,435 for uninsured motorists and $1,208 for other misdemeanor offenses.
In September, TCJC collected $19,483 in general fines including $10,301 for traffic violations, $3,954 for uninsured motorists and $947 for other misdemeanors.
Justice court also handled 385 criminal cases in October – 256 criminal and 129 civil –compared to 311 criminal and 81 civil in September.
Individual Mississippi justice courts have jurisdiction over small claims civil cases involving amounts of $3,500 or less, misdemeanor criminal cases and any traffic offense that occurs in the county involving the Tate County Sheriff's Office or Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Justice court judges also sign warrants, set bonds, conduct preliminary hearings in felony criminal cases, issue temporary protective orders and issue search warrants.
In other mid-November business, Tate County Supervisors approved the following:
• Monthly road department update.
• Solid waste department settlement of $151,014.37.
• Planning department settlement of $10,491.00.
• Travel including registration, mileage, meals and lodging if necessary for Board of Supervisors, county administrator, chancery clerk and board attorney to attend 2026 NACO Legislative Conference Feb. 19-25, 2026, in Washington, DC.
• Travel including registration, mileage, meals and lodging if necessary for Board of Supervisors, county administrator, chancery clerk and board attorney and road manager to attend 2026 MAS Legislative Conference Feb. 3-7, 2026, in Flowood.
• Travel including registration, mileage, meals and lodging if necessary for Tate County medical examiner to attend 2026 MS Medical Examiner Association Winter Conference Feb. 11-14, 2026, in Flowood.
• Travel including registration, mileage, meals and lodging if necessary for Tate County sheriff to attend 2026 MS Sheriff’s Association Winter Conference Dec. 1-5, in Biloxi.
• Travel including registration, mileage, meals and lodging if necessary for Tate County circuit clerk to attend 2026 MS Judicial College Circuit Clerk Educational Seminar Jan. 7-9, 2026, in Ridgeland.
• Travel including registration, mileage, meals and lodging if necessary for Tate County E911 dispatcher Lora Rowe to attend TAC (Terminal Agency Coordinator) Class Nov. 30-Dec. 5, in Pearl.
• Chancery clerk’s claim for land redemptions.
The next meeting of the Tate County Board of Supervisors will be their regularly scheduled first-monthly-meeting at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the Tate County Courthouse on Court Street in Senatobia.
