Mid South Rehab Services and Highland Hills Medical Center in Senatobia recently opened a state-of-the-art outpatient therapy clinic and welcomed Whitney Horner as new Director of Rehab.
Based in Ridgeland and founded in 1996, Mid South Rehab partnered with Highland Hills in August of this year to build an outpatient therapy program for the hospital featuring physical, occupational and speech therapy services.
Collaboration between Mid South’s Chief Executive Officer Steven Cole and Highland Hills’ Chief Executive Officer Jenny Miller brought about the partnership designed to offer a new service line for the hospital.
“As we developed this partnership, our goal was to create a strong, patient-centered rehabilitation program built on quality, compassion and innovation,” said Cole. “We are so proud of the teamwork that has made this union possible, and we are excited about the positive impact this will have on the community in Senatobia.”
Construction to build the therapy space included enclosing a portion of the hospital’s waiting area to create a therapy clinic space. The partnership provided premier equipment and advanced therapy technology to be supplied to the space to optimize patient outcomes and enhance their quality of care. Most notably, the program has been invigorated by the hire of Whitney Horner.
Horner is a physical therapist, having earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Stillman College and her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Certified in a favored pain relief technique called dry needling, Horner has both professional and personal experience with pain. An ACL tear from playing tennis in her senior year of college largely shaped Horner’s empathy for patients and their challenges.
“I understand what it’s like to be on the other side of recovery,” said Horner. “That experience helps me connect with my patients and design care plans that are truly personalized to their needs and goals.”
Horner runs an evidence-based program, tailoring therapeutic exercises and prioritizing patient education. She also cites the importance of a patient’s engagement in his recovery journey.
“We are thrilled to welcome Whitney to our team at Highland Hills,” said Cole. “Her expertise, compassion and leadership will play a key role in advancing our mission to improve the quality of life for every patient we serve.”
The therapy team at Highland Hills provides comprehensive, skilled services for patients across all age groups. Services are designed to help patients regain mobility, function and independence. Specialized services available include functional dry needling, myofascial release, soft tissue mobilization, mechanical traction, game-ready and E-stim therapy.
