Senatobia will host two community development events over the next five days.
Your Tate Record did not say these are economic development events or announcements; we carefully said they are community development events.
We will also say these meetings are very important to this community and to you.
The first will be Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., at Highland Hills hospital. The event is being promoted as a ribbon cutting for a new CT scanner. There will be tours of Highland Hills Medical Center.
The second is hosted by our Tate County Economic Development Foundation and is being billed as “All Hands on Deck.” It is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Haraway Ballroom at Northwest.
You need to be at these events
Our hospital has come a long way since the alarm sounded several years ago that rural hospitals across the state were in financial trouble. Highland Hills has made some tough decisions and not all of them have been popular. They appear to have turned a corner.
Highland Hills can’t be all things to all people. They will never do brain surgery in Senatobia and this despite our observation that there are some Facebook fanatics in Tate County who need brain surgery.
Seriously, we need to support our hospital. Do you realize what would happen if our hospital closed?
We hope you understand that the only people we can count on to make Tate County prosperous and successful are Tate County people.
Government programs are nice and they have deep pockets, but they don’t always have this community’s best interest at heart. The greatest travesty of government is to throw money at problems, walk away and watch people squander their opportunity.
Your Tate Record would like to point out nothing is possible without individuals and nothing big is possible without institutions.
Local people must address local problems. Each person should be treated as a resource, because the goal of community development is to help people help themselves.
We urge you to get informed at these two events, share your voice quietly with the movers-and-shakers in the room and, most importantly, build community connections.
Your Tate Record will say it again, the only people who can solve our problems are people who live here. We urge you to be part of the solution.
