Some changes are coming soon for traffic flow on sections of a pair of streets in downtown Senatobia.
After several weeks of discussion and input from the city’s engineer, officials have agreed to convert Ward Street one-way north from Main Street to College Street and Center Street one-way south from College Street to Main Street.
Senatobia’s Board of Aldermen approved the changes by 4-1 vote on Tuesday, April 18, with the lone “nay” coming from Alderman Kevin Dear.
Center Street has been one-way south from Main Street to the Senatobia Public Library since November 2022. The change became necessary after new businesses opened on Center Street, leading to the demand for additional parking. Instead of using the library’s outlet drive onto Ward Street, the city is constructing its own egress between the library and Moore Rentals/ Leigh Ann Darby Law Office building on Ward.
In November, city leaders also discussed the strong possibility of making Tate Street one-way only eastward from Ward to Front Street but have backed away from that idea.
City Engineer Kevin McLeod is researching a plan to keep traffic on that particular section of Tate Street two way and eliminating parking on the south and north sides.
