Senatobia police have a man in custody in connection with a shooting the day before Halloween.
Assistant Chief Matt Defore identified the suspect as Travis Nelson, 33, of the 500 block of East Gilmore in Senatobia. Nelson was charged with one count of aggravated assault and booked at the Tate County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
Defore said the charge against Nelson stems from an incident Saturday, Oct. 30, at Dee’s Oil gas station at 503 East Main. Officers were dispatched to that location after receiving a call of shots fired and located the intended victim, who was not struck by gunfire.
Defore said officers found bullet holes in an ice machine in front of the convenience store and shell casings in the parking lot. An investigation led Senatobia police to believe Nelson was involved, Defore added.
Officers carried out a search warrant at Nelson’s residence on East Gilmore during the early morning hours on Friday, Nov. 5, where he was placed under arrest in connection with the incident.
Senatobia police also acted on a search warrant at the 300 block of Cauthen Circle the same morning. Defore said an altercation took place at that location just before the shooting on Halloween eve, and the investigation led officers to believe there was evidence inside the residence related to the incident.
Three other people were charged with misdemeanor crimes after the searches. Those charges included disturbing the peace, disorderly and narcotics-related offenses. One subject was arrested on an outstanding warrant for petit larceny.
Defore said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.
