Three men are in custody in connection with a 2019 murder in a Coldwater apartment complex.
Chief Undra Todd identified the suspects, who were charged Monday, Dec. 6, as Exzavian Zentrell Oliver, 21, of Como; Junathean Williams, 23, of Como; and Montreal Hibbler, 25, of Sarah. All three are facing charges of murder and conspiracy and being held at different facilities in north Mississippi.
Oliver was booked at the Panola County Jail and Williams was detained at the Quitman County Jail. Hibbler, who was taken into custody by Senatobia police earlier this month while working a shift at the local McDonald’s in connection with outstanding warrants on numerous charges including murder, aggravated assault, and shooting into a dwelling in Quitman County, is currently housed at the Tate County Jail.
Williams was already being held in Quitman County jail on two counts of felony murder for his role in a mass shooting in October at a Crenshaw apartment complex, according to reports.
“These individuals were persons of interest at the start of this investigation,” Todd said during a news conference Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Coldwater Community Center. “Sometimes justice is swift… other times it takes longer. In this case, it took longer.”
The suspects are charged in connection with the 2019 shooting death of Cameron Reed, 20. Todd said officers responded to a call of shots fired Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Terrace View Apartments at 621 Dougherty Street on Sunday, Oct. 13, at approximately 10:51 p.m.
When Coldwater police arrived on scene, they discovered Reed’s body lying in the doorway of apartment No. 1. Tate County Coroner Pat Kizziah officially pronounced Reed dead a short time later. Todd told the Tate Record in 2019 Reed had been shot multiple times.
No other details surrounding the murder, including a possible motive, are being released because the investigation is ongoing.
Todd thanked several law enforcement agencies for their assistance leading up to the arrest of the three suspects, including the Tate County Sheriff’s Office, Quitman County Sheriff’s Office, Como Police Department, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), and Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
Reed’s mother, Tammie Young, spoke at the news conference and said retribution for her son’s death has been a long time coming.
“I am grateful and thankful his killers have been brought to justice, and we will get justice for my son,” she said while choking back tears. “No one should have to go through this, no one should have to lose a child before its time. It’s just a pain that you can’t get over.”
