Two juveniles face multiple charges, including weapons possession, after several attempts to escape on foot from Senatobia police.
Sgt. Jay Trentham said officers were patrolling the area around Lafayette Street on Sunday, Feb. 13, at approximately 10:30 a.m., and spotted two suspicious males wearing face coverings and hands placed in their waistbands.
Trentham said a police officer attempted to initiate a consensual encounter with the subjects before they fled on foot. The subjects were located a short time later near Whippersnaps Trampoline Park on Porter Street and bolted as officers arrived on scene.
Trentham said police discovered a wallet on the ground while they were tracking the subjects’ direction in an area where several automobile burglaries have been reported recently.
After locating potential stolen property, officers continued their foot pursuit east of Whippersnaps and eventually apprehended one of the suspects who made several attempts to pull a firearm out of his waistband, according to Trentham. The 16-year-old black male was charged with possession of a weapon by a juvenile, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
The other suspect dropped a magazine out of his firearm while being chased by police and tossed the weapon over a fence before surrendering to officers, Trentham said. The 17-year-old black male was charged with possession of a stolen weapon, possession of a weapon by a juvenile, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and false statement of identity.
The subjects’ names were not released by police because they are juveniles, but Trentham confirmed both were from Senatobia.
