A local couple has been charged in connection with felony child abuse following an inquiry by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Senatobia Police Department.
Detective Brannon Rushing identified the subjects as William T. Matthews, 27, and Patsy W. Matthews, 26, of the 200 block of Evelyn Street in Senatobia.
William Matthews was charged with felony counts of contributing to the neglect or delinquency of a child and touching a child for lustful purposes, He was released from the Tate County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
Patsy Matthews was arrested on two counts of contributing to the neglect or delinquency of a child with one of those charges upped to a felony. Rushing said the felony neglect charge stems from the subject knowingly allowing the abuse to continue. She was released under a $100,000 bond.
Rushing said Senatobia police worked closely with Child Protective Services and opened an investigation at the beginning of April after a report was filed in reference to possible child abuse of a child under the age of 10.
He said sufficient evidence was uncovered for probable cause during the investigation to charge the couple in connection with the incident.
The case remains under review by the Senatobia Police Department, according to Rushing.
