To whom it may concern,
My name is Emily Walker. I am a special education teacher of the severe and profound, medically fragile students of Senatobia Municipal School District and the student’s of Tate County. I have the great blessing of working with 12 handicapped children, who are each a special gift from God. They touch the lives of those around them in an indescribable way.
My students are totally dependent on others to meet all daily living needs. They require the constant supervision of a nurse. This leads to a classroom that is very unique in its needs and instruction. However, we believe that ALL children can and deserve to learn in a school setting.
Our children range in age from those who are bound to bed, to students, who freely crawl and walk around the classroom. They range in age from 4 - 19 years old. My students use alternate forms of communication, primarily g-tube dependent, hearing and vision impaired. However, despite their medical and physical limitations they are ALL able to learn and grow!! Our students are able to interact with technology, and use that technology to improve their life skills. Many of our students will learn to walk and talk while at school!!
As you can see we have a great task in front of us!! We recognize the need for community involvement to aid in student success! We believe our students will prosper when students, teachers, parents, and community join together. Thus, I am writing this request for your support or donation to our students and our classroom.
With the background I have explained to you, life is precious to our students and certainly not fair. We have lost three students during my tenure with this classroom. With the first student we were able to plant a tree in her memory for our playground. With the passing of the second student we were unable to attend a funeral or get together at all since it was during Covid Shut down. Finally, just last month we lost the third student this past March.
The sweetest thing happened. We had three students from gen ed 5th grade who were touched by the loss of sweet Jeremiah. These girls wanted to do something for our students or the families of these children. They had written out an entire plan on how they would work to raise money and only needed to know what we needed or would like to have.
We would love to have a handicapped swing for our playground. So that’s our dream and hope for the outcome of this sweet fundraiser. Thus I am writing this request for your support or donation to our students and our classroom. Through you, our children’s educational experience will be improved.
Any donation you would like to make would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you for your time and consideration!!
Sincerely,
Emily Walker
