The Optional Learning Center (OLC) teamed up with Northwest Mississippi Community College again this year to sponsor a coat drive for needy children and families in the community. The OLC serves the Senatobia and Tate County School Districts as an alternative education program.
“Our clothes closet is something our staff at OLC started doing a few years back,” said Jim Howington, OLC Director. “What started out as a few teachers donating clothes here and there has really grown to a community-wide campaign of support.”
This is the second year the OLC has partnered with NWCC Housing/Residence Life to sponsor a coat drive for local schools. Several students from Phi Theta Kappa at Northwest Mississippi Community College joined in this year to help make the event more successful. More than one hundred coats were collected during the coat drive and will be delivered to schools in Senatobia and Tate County for distribution.
“We would like to thank everyone who had a hand in making this such a huge success,” Howington said.
“We are blessed to have such an outpouring of support from our community in our endeavors. Key partnerships with NWCC, Hope Ministries, and many other community supporters have helped us provide for the essential needs of countless students and their families. It is our mission to ensure each of these donations makes it into the arms of needy children in our schools and surrounding community.”
