Grand marshal of Senatobia’s Christmas Parade for this year is the Tate Record’s own, Shirley Trimm.
With over 32 years of working for the paper, people in Tate County and Senatobia know the name Trimm and the newspaper go hand-in-hand. Trimm began her journey in the news business in 1989 when she began working for what was then called The Democrat.
A native of Panola County, Trimm moved to Tate County when she was a young child. After graduating from Senatobia High School, Trimm began working for Sandman Motel and Restaurant owned by Dot and Greg Mitchell.
It was during her time there that she met her husband, Bill. He worked for Volunteer Grocery and delivered hamburger meat to her restaurant daily.
The Trimms were married for fifty years before his passing in December of 2017.
Trimm’s devotion to her husband remains and he continued to be her first thought.
“I know how proud Bill would be,” said Trimm about being selected as this year’s grand marshal. “I love Senatobia and Tate County so it’s just an honor, but there are so many more people that deserve it more than me.”
Trimm has two children, Rickey and Juanita; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her role as Office Manager at the Tate Record, Trimm is actively involved with her church, Ebenezer Baptist Church where she is church secretary. She is also a longtime member of Senatobia Optimist Club and currently holds the title of President of the club. Additionally, Trimm serves as secretary of Tate County Crime Stoppers.
“Mrs. Shirley is a wonderful example of a community role model,” said Jamie Sowell, Director of Senatobia Main Street. “Her service goes well beyond her daily job. We are thankful for Mrs. Shirley’s commitment to our hometown and her service to others.”
Trimm was selected as the grand marshal for last year’s Christmas Parade before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 restrictions at the time.
Senatobia’s Christmas parade is set for Monday, Dec. 6 beginning at 7 p.m.
