TREMONT, Miss. – Fans of classic country music and Southern heritage are invited to celebrate the life and legacy of Tammy Wynette during the Annual Tammy Wynette Birthday Celebration, set for May 8–9 in Tremont, Mississippi. Hosted by the Tammy Wynette Legacy Center, this two-day event honors one of country music’s most iconic voices while welcoming visitors to explore the place where her story began.
Born in Itawamba County, Tammy Wynette rose from humble beginnings to international stardom, earning the title “First Lady of Country Music” with timeless hits that continue to resonate across generations. Each year, her legacy draws devoted fans and new audiences alike to Northeast Mississippi for a celebration rooted in music, memory and community.
This year’s event begins Friday, May 8, with a live performance by the Mississippi School of Music, setting the tone for a weekend filled with heartfelt tributes and authentic country sound. The celebration continues Saturday, May 9, with live music from The Silver Eagle Band and a special appearance by Georgette Jones, Wynette’s daughter, who will take the stage to honor her mother’s enduring influence.
Throughout the weekend, guests can tour the Tammy Wynette Legacy Center, which showcases memorabilia, personal artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of Wynette’s remarkable life and career. The event will also feature local vendors, creating a festive atmosphere that highlights the culture and creativity of the Itawamba community.
