U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., spoke at multiple events across Mississippi this week and is slated speak at the Senatobia Rotary Club at noon on Friday.
Senator Wicker first spoke at the Defense Industry Training Accelerated Courses (DITAC) ribbon cutting and press conference at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC). DITAC is partnering with the defense industry to equip more Mississippians to work in the defense sector.
“Our defense industries need more skilled workers, and MGCCC is stepping up to meet that challenge. By participating in this program, young Mississippians can earn high school credit and college hours at the same time," said Wicker when reflecting on the event. "This is good news for our educational system and our defense industrial base,”
Wicker was the keynote speaker at the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Luncheon, touting the upcoming return of Amtrak service to the Gulf Coast. Additionally, Senator Wicker highlighted the enactment of President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, which prevented an enormous tax increase from going into effect.
“This is an exciting time to be a job creator along the Gulf Coast," said Wicker. "It was great to speak with community members at the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce luncheon, discussing economic development, tax cuts, national defense, and the upcoming Mardi Gras Rail service.
"When small business job creators are required to send less tax money to Washington, the economy sees more hiring,” said Wicker. “This legislation will eventually increase economic activity and revenue. I look forward to seeing how the Gulf Coast will continue to flourish.”
Wicker then spoke at the Anduril facility in McHenry, Mississippi, to celebrate the new expansion of the Solid Rocket Complex.
“I love groundbreakings, but I love expansions even more. They prove that entrepreneurs and job creators want more of what they have in Mississippi. Congress is making big investments in national defense. As we spend more, we will also spend smarter, partnering with cutting-edge companies like Anduril. I could not be more thrilled that even more of that important work will be happening in McHenry,” said Senator Wicker.
Lastly, Senator Wicker joined Commissioner Olivia Trusty on her first official trip as a Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission to Mississippi.
“I am grateful that Commissioner Trusty chose Mississippi for her first official trip as an FCC Commissioner," the Senator said. "Ms. Trusty was an outstanding member of my staff for many years. I am confident that her leadership, expertise, and diligence will lead to her success at the FCC.
"Better internet connectivity translates directly into economic success and better telehealth options," Wicker added. "I look forward to working with Commissioner Trusty to deliver lasting results for Mississippians.”
