Following two seasons of success on the diamond, Strayhorn coach Jim Tom Copeland is returning home to his alma mater.
North Delta School in Batesville made the news official last week, as the Batesville native was appointed to lead the Green Wave baseball program he once played for.
Copeland departs Strayhorn after a combined 17-13 record over one full season and a shortened 2020 season. The Mustangs went 11-13 this season and locked up its first playoff berth since the 2017 campaign, earning Copeland Region 2-2A Coach of the Year honors.
Last summer, Copeland was elevated to the school’s athletic director position and served as the head football coach for one season, guiding the Mustangs to the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Copeland is a 2011 graduate of North Delta and was a four-sport athlete in football, basketball, baseball and track. He spent two seasons in Senatobia as a member of the Northwest Community College baseball program, before wrapping up his education and athletic career at Belhaven University.
Copeland also had previous coaching stints at Independence, South Panola and Coldwater before arriving in Strayhorn.
