A local man has been arrested for failure to register as a sex offender.
Captain Lisa Sanders from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office identified the subject as John H. Starkey, 42, of the 500 block of Caleb Lane in Coldwater.
Sanders said TCSO opened an investigation in September 2021 regarding Starkey’s non-compliance on the Mississippi Sex Offender Registry list and subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest.
Starkey was taken into custody by Tate County deputies Friday, May 20, and charged with failure to register as a sex offender. He was booked into the Tate County Jail without bond until a preliminary hearing Thursday, May 26.
Starkey was convicted of statutory rape in DeSoto County on Nov. 16, 2000.
