Another top finish capped off the fall cross country season for the Senatobia boys’ cross country team earlier this month, as the Warriors placed second in the MHSAA Class 4A state meet in Clinton.
Senatobia competed in a crowded field of 23 schools, with only West Lauderdale finishing narrowly ahead of the Warriors for the overall top finish. SHS placed ahead of Choctaw Central, which came in third, and Pass Christian, which finished fourth overall.
Additionally, the Lady Warriors finished sixth among a 15-team field. South Pontotoc won the girls’ state title, followed by Caledonia in second and Choctaw Central in third.
Austin Winstead beat out 156 other runners for the individual top finish. The senior earned a mark of 17:23.66 to lead SHS, while junior Jakarien Perry placed seventh with a mark of 18:04.46.
Junior Dylan Gay, sophomore Jacob Waller and junior Matthew Hoskins rounded out the top five for the Warriors, with Gay placing 16th for his mark of 18:25.41. Waller earned 25th and Hoskins placed 29th.
For the Lady Warriors, seniors Ella Oursler and Madison Jordan were atop the field of 108 runners. Oursler completed a mark of 20:20.83 to earn third, while Jordan placed fourth with a mark of 20:36.78.
Seventh-grader Taylor Hale was the next closest runner for SHS, earning a mark of 24:10.16 to finish at number 31. Sophomore Mary Kathryn Blair and freshman Aubrey Winstead earned 38th and 49th, respectively, closing out the top five runners for the Lady Warriors.
