Have you ever been so tired that you could barely keep your eyes open? Then, just as you lay down to sleep, suddenly you are wide awake. The night gets later and it drags on until eventually, you fall asleep from sheer exhaustion only to hear your alarm clock go off only 30 minutes later?
That’s a typical night for me, with one exception. I hardly ever need an alarm clock. I usually set mine for 6 a.m., but I have a much more reliable alarm clock than the cheap one I bought at Wal-Mart.
It’s called “My Husband.” He has what I call imperfect timing, and he doesn’t even know it. Each morning about 5:30 a.m. he rolls over on his back and mimics what can only be described as the sound of a small bear hibernating!
And immediately, there goes my last few minutes of sleep. Perfect timing would be for him to do that at 6 a.m., but more often than not, the timing is off and it’s just plain irritating.
It's a shame that we can't have things work out exactly like we want, at exactly the right time, and in the exact way that we choose.
As Christians, we can sometimes have imperfect timing concerning our witness. Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us that “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven:”
As Christians, we should always be in prayer that the Lord will provide the situation in which to minister and share the gospel with others.
We should always ask that the Lord provide us with the wisdom to speak at the appointed time. And we should also ask the Lord to help us to hold our tongue when it’s not the right time.
Have you ever known a person who somehow always manages to say the wrong thing at the wrong time, every single time?
In certain circumstances, it can cause harm to the witness that we seek to have on others.
Imperfect timing is an impulsive response, instead of silence or a lack of action at the most crucial moment.
However, perfect timing ushers forth that which God desires to be fulfilled. There is something to be said for the person who patiently waits for the right time to do things.
It has long been said that The Lord is an “On Time God” and we should be His “On Time People," who are willing and ready for just the right moment that He appoints.
Remember, the right thing done or said at the wrong time, is still wrong!
