Despite earning a pair of first round victories in the MHSAA Playoffs recently, the postseason journey came to an end for the Independence and Senatobia girls’ basketball teams.
SHS picked up a 55-33 first round win against Caledonia on February 10, but dropped a 70-29 decision to defending Class 4A state champions Tishomingo County on Feb. 14.
Independence won its first-round playoff matchup against Amanda Elzy back on Feb. 10, as the Lady Kats picked up a close 50-46 victory. However, IHS was no match for Belmont in the second round, as the Lady Cardinals took a 72-31 win to end the Lady Kats’ season.
All three boys’ basketball teams fell in the opening round of the playoffs. Independence dropped a 53-43 road loss at Yazoo County, while Senatobia fell by a 63-58 decision at Caledonia. In the Class 1A playoffs, Strayhorn also fell by a 60-26 decision to Falkner.
