If the first couple events of the season are any indication, Senatobia track coach Shane Baltz is poised for another successful spring campaign.
Two Lady Warriors set new school records in Senatobia’s most recent events. At the New Albany Season Opener on February 27, Angelnis Bobo broke the program’s long jump record, scoring a 16’2” result. Meanwhile, Nakayela Hammond broke the Lady Warriors’ record in the pole vault finals, finishing with an 8’6” result at the Oxford Invitational over the weekend.
As for the rest of the team, the Senatobia Lady Warriors placed second overall at the New Albany Season Opener, while the boys’ team earned a first-place finish. In the boys’ standings, SHS beat out 13 other teams with a team score of 124.50, placing ahead of runners-up Caledonia (98.75) and third place Starkville (93.75).
Some of the most notable finishes in the New Albany Season Opener included junior Ty’earion Webb, who won the boys’ 400-meter dash with a 52.21 mark. Webb placed ahead of 40 other competitors, with teammate Ethan Loyacano finishing third with a 53.72 result.
Additionally, Webb also won the high jump with a 5-10.00 mark.
Sophomore Deavion Watson placed first in the boys’110-meter hurdles, garnering a 15.29 result. Watson also finished second in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing with a 44.23 mark.
Aside from Bobo’s record performance in the long jump, she also finished third in the girls’ shot put finals, totaling a 26-08.00 distance. Eighth-grader Taylor hale finished third in the girls’ 3200-meter run, earning a time of 13:05.89.
In the Oxford Invitational last Friday, the Lady Warriors placed third against a stacked field of competition, compiling 75 team points. Tupelo and Caledonia placed first and second, respectively, with South Panola finishing fourth.
Senatobia also placed sixth out of 17 boys teams, earning 44 points. Oxford won the event with 114.50 total points.
Top finishers for SHS once again included Watson, who placed first in the 110-meter hurdles with a mark of 15.25. He was one of 29 competitors in the event.
Bobo also recorded a third-place finish in the girls’ triple jump finals, logging a 32-06.50 result. Hammond’s record performance earned her second in the pole vault finals, placing just behind Tupelo’s Ashlyn Powell. Senior Layla Johnson also finished fourth out of 37 competitors in the discus finals, recording a 79-08.00 result.
