A three-run frame in the top of the seventh inning did Senatobia no favors in Tuesday’s 5-2 loss to Oxford.
Oxford picked up three runs to break a 2-2 tie and the Lady Warriors failed to reach base in the bottom of the inning, aside from a two-out error in Bayleigh Sims’ at-bat.
Senatobia struck first in the bottom of the second, as a leadoff error put Maci Claire Moore on base. Back-to-back sacrifice bunts from Savanna Hudspeth and Mady Bozant allowed Moore to score, giving the Lady Warriors a slim 1-0 lead.
Oxford tied the game in the top of the fourth, thanks to a single to center field from Sophia Harrington, and the Lady Chargers advanced the lead to 2-1 in the fifth, thanks to a base hit from Paisley Walls that followed a triple from Jayla Dukes.
SHS tied the game with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, as Bozant’s single to right field allowed Moore to come around and score.
Oxford finished with 11 of the game’s 14 hits and both teams accounted for three errors apiece. Senatobia scattered all three of its base hits through the lineup, and Kelsey Hoffman went the distance in the circle, striking out six batters against three walks and three earned runs.
With the loss, the Lady Warriors fell to 4-5 on the season. Senatobia will face Southaven on Friday, March 28 at 6:30 P.M. and travel to Millington Central on Saturday, March 29 at 3:30 P.M.
