Following a strong opening weekend at the plate, Northwest sophomore outfielder Carly Dunigan has been chosen as the MACCC Softball Player of the Week, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced Tuesday morning.
Dunigan, a native of Senatobia, batted .667 in four games for the Rangers, finishing with a pair of doubles, four triples and four RBIs. Additionally, she came away with a 1.000 fielding percentage for the weekend, accounting for seven putouts and an assist in eight total chances.
Dunigan's efforts helped Northwest to a 4-0 start, as the Rangers swept all four of their opponents in the Sand Mountain Classic. Two of those victories came against nationally-ranked opponents Central Alabama (No. 14) and Marion Military Institute (No. 16).
The nominations and voting for MACCC Player of the Week awards are handled by the sports information directors of each MACCC-member institution.
Northwest will host Jefferson College on Wednesday, February 12. The games are scheduled to take place at 1/3 P.M. with live broadcast coverage on Ranger TV.
