A Senatobia man is behind bars on charges of sexually assaulting a child following an investigation by the Senatobia Police Department Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
Joe Lee Conley, 42, of Senatobia was charged with touching, handling, etc. a child for lustful purposes (fondling) on July 26, following a two-week investigation.
In the early morning hours of Thursday, July 14, officers were dispatched to an address inside the city limits of Senatobia for a possible sexual assault which had just occurred.
On arrival, officers met briefly with a 10-year-old child who made allegations of sexual assault by an unknown male who left the residence prior to the officers being notified. After officers insured the safety of the child, the case was forwarded on to an investigator with the department’s CID.
After a short time into the investigation, a lead was developed which would give investigators a name for the alleged perpetrator. The suspect was identified as Conley.
Over the course of the following weeks, investigators were able to develop enough evidence to arrest Conley. On July 25, a warrant for Conley’s arrest was issued and bond set to $75,000.
The following day, after investigators attempted to locate Conley, he turned himself in at SPD. He was booked and transported to the Tate County Jail for housing.
The investigation is ongoing, and if anyone has any additional information regarding the incident or other incidents, contact Detective Brannon Rushing at 662-366-2966.
