The Cosmopolitan Club met April 2, at the Senatobia Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Members still donned face masks and chairs were appropriately spaced as reminders of the yearlong COVID-19 pandemic. The club was organized in 1902 and has continued through wars, depressions and other terrible times.
The hostess, Mrs. Ann Lamar, decorated with rabbits surrounding a blue hydrangea for an attractive Easter display. She served a delicious party plate and members were reminded that before Lamar became a Supreme Court Justice, she was a home economics major.
Ms. Eleanor Cahill gave an inspirational devotional which included Matthew 6:26.
“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
She reminded the club that they should wake up with a song in their hearts as our feathered friends do.
The leader, Ms. Debbie Perkins, introduced the speaker, Mrs. Peggy Williams, who gave a most informative talk on local birds. She had beautiful photography of songbirds and other colorful birds- many taken in her own yard. It was amazing to see the number of God’s creatures that can be enjoyed if we take the time. She also reminded the club of the plight of birds and the distressing loss of baby blue birds during the recent snow.
One of the club’s favorite projects is providing funds for the Convalescent Center residents to have their hair done. The treasurer. Maxine Barr, reported that the beauty shop just reopened after being closed during the long quarantine.
