BACC residents will receive city utility
The City of Senatobia is adding approximately 180 new utility customers after finalizing the purchase of New Image Water Association.
New Image, previously owned by local businessman Harry House, serviced the residents of Back Acres Country Club the past several years. Senatobia aldermen unanimously approved the $100,000 purchase at the beginning of October.
Mayor Greg Graves said the city used money it obtained from BP Settlement funds to close the deal. A portion of that settlement was used last year to make much-needed repairs to Court Street, which runs along the north side of the Tate County Courthouse. New disabled parking and sidewalks were installed before a new overlay of asphalt was added.
Crews from Senatobia Public Works have been locating and connecting water lines on Country Club Road near Interstate 55 the past few weeks. Senatobia Public Works Director Jeff Rich said valves are ready to be activated to supply Back Acres Country Club residents with city water, but samples must first be approved by officials from the Mississippi State Department of Health.
Shands Bottom railroad crossing upgrade
Aldermen approved $12,500 to pay for asphalt to repair the railroad crossing on Shands Bottom Road between U.S. Highway 51 and Scott Street. Rich said Grenada Railroad plans to raise the tracks four to six inches and mill, or grind, asphalt 20 feet from the tracks to eliminate the hill at the crossing to make it smoother.
Graves said the Mississippi Department of Transportation has been contacted about the upgrade and work could begin over the next couple of weeks. He advised motorists to be aware of signs signifying the closure of that section of Shands Bottom Road where the railroad crossing repairs will take place.
