The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) announced, Wednesday, July 14, Tate County will be included in a statewide initiative to provide local sites to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
MSDH advises there is no need for appointments prior to the pop-up. The public is encouraged to drop by the site to receive the vaccination. Appointments can be made at https://covidvaccine.umc.edu.
The MSU Extension Office located at #1 French’s Alley in Senatobia will offer the vaccination Wednesday, July 21 (today) and Thursday, July 22, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m daily.
Beginning Friday, July 23, and Saturday, July 24, MSDH will be in Coldwater at the Community Center, 599 North Street, from 9 a.m. until noon both days.
The vaccination is available to anyone 12 years and older. Both Pfizer’s two-dose vaccine and Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose (for individuals 18 and over) will be available during the pop-up clinic. MSDH stated no documentation or identification will be required. For residents opting for the Pfizer vaccination, second doses will be available in the area three weeks later.
According to MSDH only 26 percent of Tate County’s estimated 28,539 residents are full vaccinated against COVID-19; however, 29 percent of the population have received at least one dose.
Tate County is performing behind the overall numbers for the State of Mississippi.
According to a July 13 report by www.healthdata.gov, statewide 33.3 percent of Mississippi’s total population have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while 37.1 percent have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
