During May of each year, Preservation Month is celebrated throughout the United States; cities and towns celebrate their communities’ unique history, historic buildings and/or landmarks. It serves to gain awareness to all ages, young and old alike, of the importance of preserving and saving historic buildings and landmarks for future generations.
The Senatobia Historic Preservation Commission in cooperation with Sycamore Arts Council is pleased to announce the “Sycamore Project” in conjunction with the National Trust for Historic Preservation Month. The name “Senatobia” was derived from the Indian word “Senatohoba”, which means “white sycamore” and is a symbol of “rest for the weary”.
Preservation Week 2022 will be held Monday, May 2 thru Friday, May 6 in Senatobia. The “Sycamore Project” combines history and art in conjunction with the celebration of Preservation Week.
Area 6th grade/high school students have participated by creating their individual creative interpretation and expression of the “sycamore tree”. Prizes will be awarded!
During Preservation Week, all entries will be on display at the Sycamore Art Gallery. The gallery is located at 107 Ward St. and will be open Monday-Friday from 3:00-6:00pm during Preservation Week.
Make your plans to stop in and see the artistic expressions!
