The Mississippi Federation of Democratic Women (MFDW) issued the following statement announcing its endorsement of Congressman Bennie G. Thompson, Democratic candidate for US House of Representatives for Mississippi’s Second Congressional District.
“We are proud to support Congressman Thompson in his campaign to again represent the people of the 2nd Congressional District. Congressman Thompson shares the commitment to the ideals that bring our Mississippi Federation of Democratic Women together: equality, justice, and compassion,” said Lovie West, President, MFDW.
“We are impressed with Congressman Thompson’s outstanding contribution to the nation, serving as Chair of the Select Committee on the January 6th Attack as well as the Chair of the Homeland Security Committee. Throughout Congressman Thompson’s 43 years of public service, he has served as a powerful protector of civil rights, equal education, and healthcare reform for his constituents in the 2nd District and for all Americans.
“Congressman Thompson’s platform resonates with us and fits with the values that matter to us. Serving in his ninth term, Congressman Thompson is the longest-serving African American elected official in the state of Mississippi. Congressman Thompson has also served on the US Agriculture, Budget, and Small Business Committees.
“Thoughout his many years of service to our country and state, Congressman Thompson has been a powerful voice for those seeking to overcome injustice. His proven voting record stands as a testament to his leadership and determination for positive change.
“Residents of the 2nd District need a compassionate and people-first Congressman. We are certain that Congressman Thompson, who puts the needs of the majority first, is that Congressman,” said West.
“We are ready to help mobilize this district and do the work to send Congressman Bennie G. Thompson to the US House of Representatives in November,” concluded West.
