With the region tournaments in the books, the stage for high school hoops in Tate County shifts to the state playoff level, as the first round of the MHSAA Playoffs begins Monday.
In Class 1A, the Strayhorn boys’ team locked up the fourth and final seed from Region 3-1A, earning a trip to Falkner, the top seed from Region 2-1A. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 P.M. in Falkner on Tuesday, February 11.
Should the Mustangs advance, SHS would travel to the winner of Biggersville and West Lowndes on Saturday, Feb. 15.
After falling to Coahoma County in the Region 2-3A Championship contest, the No. 2 seed Independence Lady Kats will host Amanda Elzy on Monday at 7 P.M. The Lady Panthers are the third-seeded team from Region 3-3A.
With a win, the Lady Kats would advance to face the winner of Belmont and Aberdeen on Valentine’s Day.
Meanwhile, the Independence boys’ squad locked up the No. 3 seed from Region 2-3A after a 66-51 victory against North Panola last Friday. Jax Wilson totaled 42 points in the win, shattering the program’s all-time record of 38 points.
With the win, the Wildcats will face the No. 2 seed from Region 3-3A, Yazoo County. The game is scheduled for a 7 P.M. tipoff at Yazoo County on Tuesday, Feb. 11. The winner of the game will meet the winner of East Webster and Belmont on Saturday, Feb. 15.
In Class 4A, the Senatobia Lady Warriors left the Region 2-4A Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will host Caledonia, the third-seeded team from Region 3-4A. The matchup is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 10 at 7 P.M., with the winner advancing to face the winner of Tishomingo County and Leake Central on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Senatobia boys’ team locked up the No. 3 seed from Region 2-4A and will also face Caledonia on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Tipoff for that matchup is slated for 7 P.M. in Caledonia, with the winning team lined up to face the winner of Leake Central and Shannon.
